🏔️ 1. Amarnath Cave – The Sacred Shrine

The holy Amarnath Cave is located at an altitude of around 3,888 meters (12,756 ft) in the Himalayas.

Inside the cave, a naturally formed ice Shivling (Himling) appears every year due to freezing water droplets. This sacred formation is considered a manifestation of Lord Shiva.

According to Hindu belief:

  • Lord Shiva chose this cave to reveal the secret of Amar Katha (immortality) to Goddess Parvati.

  • He left behind Nandi (bull), the Moon, snakes, and even his son Ganesha before entering the cave.

  • To ensure no living being heard the secret, he created fire to destroy life around.

  • However, a pair of pigeon eggs survived and later became immortal — many pilgrims claim to see pigeons near the cave even today.

The Amarnath Yatra is organized every year during Shravan month (June–August) by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

📍 Two Main Routes:

1️⃣ Pahalgam Route (Traditional – 36-48 km trek)

  • Via: Pahalgam → Chandanwari → Sheshnag → Panchtarni → Cave

  • Takes 3–5 days

2️⃣ Baltal Route (Short – 14 km trek)

  • Via: Baltal

  • Can be completed in 1–2 days
